Fishing Fort Peck
and the Missouri River
Your fishing day begins
at the Fort Peck Marina at 7:00 a.m., where we launch our 2006 Warrior V-203 with a 250-horsepower Yamaha outboard and an 8-horse, four-stroke Yamama kicker motor for trolling, equipped with the latest tools of the trade:
Sonar, GPS, marine band radio, electric down riggers, etc. We provide
all the gear, tackle, and bait, but you are welcome to bring your own.
We stay out at least eight hours or until you're ready to come in. Your
guide will then clean and package your catch.
Fort Peck is fast becoming
known as the West's hottest fishing destination. Over the past few
years, it has produced state record walleye and world record saugeye and
sauger, and is known for its regularity on 10-pound plus walleye. Best
time: June through September. The northern pike fishing on Fort Peck
Lake is as good as it gets, averaging 8 to 10 pounds with frequent
catches of 15 to 20-plus pound fish. Best time: June through September.
Good catches of
smallmouth bass from 1 to 4 pounds can also be expected in the summer
months. Lake trout and Chinook salmon can be caught throughout the
summer with the aid of downriggers. Lake trout run from 5 to 20-plus
pounds. And the salmon, which usually get going around the first week of
August, average 15 to 20 pounds with several getting close to the
30-pound mark.
